Deutsches Gasthaus @ 8 Nov 2007

Was raining lightly that night. We suppose to try out Boathouse (next time mayb…) but few doors away we saw Deutsches Gasthaus (next to HLBank).

Took a look at the menu & we decided this might be a good try, boy oh boy how right we were.

The place is a pub, so tall stools & tables were available upfront, further in; were the normal tables & chairs. Lights were dim. Pictures didn’t come out drooling but the foods were (drools…)

The waitress is attentive & friendly to steer us from over ordering & recommended us good dish.

I start off with a lime drink & HB with a Hoegaarden Beer. See the pic compare with my normal drink.. it was HUGE, but easily down, because the taste were fruity & light in the mouth, I even can’t resist & took a couple mouthfuls. This is not your average supermarket beer.

Next came the mushroom soup. One spoonfull, & we are hooked, the soup is chockfull of fungi goodness, not those creamy type, this is full of small bits of mushroom & with very light cream. It warms us up right away. We (almost) licked the plate clean.

The main dish is the German Pork Knuckle, it was HUGE like the beer, the skin is crackling crispy, once we plunge the knife in, and steamy aromas waft out.

Meat is pinkish (in the dim light) & so very tender, almost no need any knife maneuvers to separate the meat from the bone. The skin is crispy & minimal jellied like fats (which I scraped aside).

Accompany is small side of sauerkraut & baked potatoes & small side of salad.

This is satisfying meal we won’t likely to forget.
